Following the inception of the government’s phased ‘rebuild’ strategy, Mitrefinch’s new report has revealed that UK construction firms were the least prepared to offer flexible working to staff pre-pandemic and will need to make the greatest changes long term to facilitate social distancing in the workplace.
The main findings in the report include:
- Construction and engineering firms, as well as head offices of major UK retailers, identified as sectors where businesses will need to make the biggest changes to facilitate long term flexible working.
- Banking and technology firms lead the way in offering remote and flexible working options to staff pre-pandemic.
- Employers in Cambridge, Nottingham and Edinburgh are most prepared based on their pre-pandemic working conditions.
- Businesses in Newcastle, Aberdeen and Coventry are least prepared and will need to make the biggest changes moving forwards.
The research analysed thousands of job descriptions, employee reviews and forums for the UK’s biggest businesses, focusing on the ten largest employers in 20 major cities.
